Solenne Extendable Dining Table

Round tables solve the everyday meal and struggle with the dinner party — the Solenne solves both by changing shape. Closed, it holds a 43.3' diameter circle suited to four place settings. Pulled open along smooth sliding rails, it becomes a 59.1' x 43' oval that seats six, the two stored leaves swinging into place without a separate extension board to hunt down in a closet. 

Beneath the tabletop, a two-layer pedestal holds eight compartments and an open shelf, enough to keep the extension leaves themselves stored out of sight along with plates, linens, or serving pieces. The cylindrical base has a retro-inspired sliding door, giving the storage a finished look rather than an exposed cubby. A 0.7'-thick melamine-coated top resists the everyday wear of family meals, wiping clean without much ceremony.
